The AcoustAlert front end software also has a built-in I/O control for easy interfacing to other systems like
 
·         CCTV systems for camera switching or camera PTZ pre-positioning.
·         General switching used to sound a siren or switch lights on in event of an alarm in a zone.
·         Gate control to open and close a gate or any other control functions you would like to automate on your site.
     
So the unit we use for this is the MOXA ioLogik E1214 which is an ethernet device running on 12 to 36VDC. It has 6 inputs and 6 relay contacts as outputs. It is connected onto the Ethernet network along with the AcoustAlert field processors and control PC
The MOXA ioSearch Configuration Utility
This is a simple but amazing tool designed to quickly setup any MOXA I/O devices you may have on your ethernet network. This software tool can be simply installed onto your windows 10 laptop. It is not resource hungry so any entry level laptop will suffice. This tool enables you to search and connect directly to the MOXA I/O units with your laptop and do the IP allocation of the MOXA unit.

If you have more than one MOXA unit you will need to decide where you will need to interface to other inputs or outputs on the site.

Once you have assigned IP addresses to your MOXA (which should be in the same range as your AcoustAlert devices) you can proceed to the mapping of inputs to outputs in the AcoustAlert front end software
MOXA Configuration > Device Config
Once you have completed giving the MOXA unit an IP address as above you can then name the device under this section.
Select new device
    • Type in the IP address (previously assigned with the MOXA I/O search tool)
    • Name the device. This is an important step as the naming convention will be used later
Once you have set up your IP and device name you can save this information and move onto Input Config.
MOXA Configuration > Input Config

Although there are 6 inputs on this MOXA device it is not necessary to use these directly as your AcoustAlert zones are also designated as inputs for switching external devices, we will see this a bit further on.

    • Select the device (MOXA) by the name you have given it previously
You can now tick the active inputs and then name these

Save your configuration and move to next tab.
MOXA Configuration > Output Config

Although there are 6 outputs on this MOXA device which are the relays that will switch to control your external devices

    • Select the device (MOXA) by the name you have given it previously

Save your configuration and move to next tab.
MOXA Configuration > Zone Config

The AcoustAlert can manage up to 40 zones and these can be made up of AcoustAlert zones as well as MOXA zones. So, if you have for example 18 AcoustAlert zones then you may want to start your MOXA zones from zone number 22 onwards. The important thing is to separate the AcoustAlert zones from MOXA zones so they do not overlap.
 
    • Select the (MOXA) input which you are now going to allocate to a zone
    • Chose the “state” it will be in event of an alarm
   
Either closed or open state
 
    • Chose “display position” which is the zone number you are allocating it out of a possible 40 zones. This is by drop down box
    • Chose an automatic time out or auto-reset you would like for the input alarm condition to reset automatically
    • 0 seconds means the auto-reset is disabled
    • 10 to 3600 seconds will enable the auto-timeout to the time selected
       
Save your configuration and move to next tab
MOXA Configuration > Alarm Config
  
This is where all previous setting and naming comes into play. It is important that you have jotted this down so you know which input zone switches to which output and how.
 
So, another thing to remember is we have 40 zones available (either AcoustAlert or inputs allocated).
 
Now, we also have available 20 user controls available, these are buttons that will come up on your computer screen site layout for the controller to manually manipulate in order to control outputs.

 So here we select the output we want to switch (relay on the MOXA I/O unit)
 
    • Select Output, the drop-down box will list these by the names you have given previously
    • Select Output Type, here you will be given 2 options
        • Zone event – this is triggered by an AcoustAlert zone or MOXA zone
        • User control – this is triggered by the user by selecting the respective button on the computer screen graphic display.
    
For Zone event
 
    • This will follow the status of a previously set-up alarm zone for either AcoustAlert or MOXA zone.
    • Select the Zone input dropdown box and select the zone you want to trigger the previously selected output alarm to be switched
 
For User Control
 
    • This will follow the status of a previously set-up user control on the PC site graphics
    • Select the “Display Position” drop down box and select the user control button which will control the previously selected output alarm to be switched
